Packing A Holiday Capsule Wardrobe – Cornwall Today Magazine, July 2016 Having established how to dress for a Cornish summer, I now want to look ahead to the holiday season. Whether it’s a city break, a week’s camping or a full blown villa in the Med, it’s always essential to pack cleverly and efficiently. Make a plan, think about what you need, lay it out on the bed and make sure it all works together to create a capsule wardrobe. Some people find this easy and others (myself included) struggle. I’m getting better and learning the rules, but often seem to arrive at my destination with several key pieces missing and a bag full of fairly impractical mismatched items, and an equally bad mood!

Start with the basics - these will change depending on the destination, but the rules are the same. Put together an interchangeable collection of tonally matching pieces: a pair of white denim shorts; a pretty sun top and a sun dress, plus a statement knit to wear with both; jeans to take the sun top into the evening; a simple black vest to wear with the jeans, and a statement kimono for casual but gorgeous evening wear.

Accessorise with great jewellery, coral lipstick, Havaianas, and maybe a flash of metallic or leopard print for the evenings. If you’re lucky enough to be heading somewhere with guaranteed heat, don’t be tempted to pack jeans, jumpers and long sleeves - it’s a waste of space, as you just won’t wear them. Instead, take a couple of long-sleeved, light layering tops just in case. Make sure you include enough bikinis, sundresses and floaty beach cover-ups - they take up hardly any space, and there’s nothing worse than sitting around with wet bikini bottoms all day.

Swimwear, Sunglasses and a Cami top are ideal for a Capsule Holiday Wardrobe
Take this opportunity to feel liberated from your normal day-to-day wardrobe and dress for wall-to-wall sunshine. Much as I love living in Cornwall, nothing quite beats that feeling of sun-kissed skin still glowing and warm in the evening heat, cold gin and tonic in hand and the promise of an al fresco evening meal.

My final tip is to take plenty of sunscreen, aftersun and a big hat. I’ve been using Korres sun care products for three years now since stocking them in the shop, and I cannot recommend them enough. They smell gorgeous, aren’t greasy and really nourish and protect the skin - after all, it’s are a Greek brand so they should know what they’re doing!

Denim shorts, clogs, beach bag and a sun hat are all essential items for a Holiday Capsule Wardrobe

After all this talk of sunshine, I need to go and book a flight! Happy holidays, and good luck with your packing.
