Cyprus Travel Guide
Late Spring we whisked ourselves away to the beautiful island of Cyprus to shoot our Summer 16 Lookbook. Yes we know, it’s a tough old life! Full of traditional character, dreamy beaches, hidden coves and unexpected mountain villages. Here is our guide of the island’s must-sees...
THE BEACH IS CALLING...
Spending our days lazing on a sun lounger doesn’t happen too often. With Cyprus’ large collection of sandy beaches and coves right across the island, we were spoilt for choice, so how could we resist?
If you're looking for dreamy white beaches, really, who isn’t? Famagusta district has your name on it. Mainly known for it’s clubbing side, the district has so much more to offer. We spent our morning at Nissi Beach, paddling in the shallow clear waters and golden sand. Strolling along the coastal walkway at Fig Tree Bay and taking in the sea breeze will give you that magical holiday vibe. Make sure you don’t run out of time and miss Konnos Bay. It really is the hidden gem of Famagusta.
ROCK & ROLL
Cyprus is much more than sandy beaches. With a distinctly rocky landscape, some of the most heavenly swimming waters are surrounded by rocky coves. Take a boat trip from Paphos Harbour and spend your day exploring the coast and visiting Paphos Sea Caves. Diving into the crystal clear water is sure to refresh you.
Make sure you pick up a snorkel in Cyprus…there is a whole other world to discover under the clear waters. The most famed rocky beach to visit is the rock of Aphrodite. Aphrodite is said to have risen from the waters here. We visited in the evening when the peaceful sunset colours look so vivid in the beautiful sky. Legend has it if you swim around the rock three times you will have eternal beauty and love…we’re grabbing our bikinis right now!
If you crave the untouched landscape, head out of town to the Akamas Penisula. Take a boat trip from Latchi to explore the blue lagoon covers or for the adventurers, hire a 4x4 and explore this breathtaking coast at your own pace.
HIT THE ROAD
Looking for a change in scenery? Hire a car and take a journey through Cyprus villages in Troodos. Within an hours drive you can reach some of the most charming, picturesque villages bursting with Crypus’ heritage.
Our top pick for tradition and beauty is Lefkara. Famous for Lefkara Lace the village is full of impressive courtyards and vibrant colours. With plenty of taverns spread around, it is the perfect village for escaping the scorching midday sun.
WHERE TO EAT
A spot of lunch? You know a good local restaurant when they just read out the menu, and you order it all. Yes, we know we got over excited! But that was the best decision we ever made. Homemade, mouth watering dishes of dips, salads, cheese and warm bread. Friendly staff, super cool interior, Koutoutpou’s is our favourite café in Old Town Paphos.
When we finished topping up our tan, not that that job ever ends, we ate in Muse Bar. Hidden away in Paphos Old Town, and loved by locals and visitors, Muse is ideally located on a hill top with a panoramic of the whole town and sea. With a cocktail in hand and an uninterrupted view, watch as the sun sinks into the sea and the sky becomes alive with colours. Eating and drinking here is indulgent. Best Burgers ever!…the Italian Salad and Seafood Salad are also our favourites, all in more than generous portions sizes.
So laze on a beach all day or explore the old towns and villages, Cyprus has so much to offer. We had an incredible few days shooting in the sun, so do as we did…Book a flight and pack your bag and get some well deserved sun.
