VANS x Roo's Beach Artist Event with Ben Allen

Hot off the press: Vans have approached Roo's Beach to host an Artist evening at the Porth Shop on September 11th, 2014.

We will be working with two very different artists who will be customising a limited number of white Vans on the evening. They have also created an exclusive pair which will be auctioned off for charity (more to follow on this soon!).

Customers will buy their white pair at regular price and have them customised that evening at no extra cost.

Our first artist announcement is Ben Allen:

Free-spirited, UK based artist Ben Allen is most well-known for his comfortably controversial Pop Art paintings. Using a ‘collage’ style of juxtapositions, the dynamic paintings are complex mash-ups of popular culture that critiques the day-to-day dull and mundane, challenge the media's view on sexuality and inspire a sense of freedom.

With designs gracing the walls of big names like Jade Jagger, Stephen Dorff, Sophie Ellis Bexter and Richard Branson, art displays in Selfridges and a 40ft artwork dominating the Notting Hill headquarters of Virgin, Ben has become a recognised name in his industry.

He is inspired by underground surfing and skateboard street scenes.

Ben Allen's journey as an artist has seen his work developed over 10+ years, becoming more and more sought-after, Ben travels worldwide for clients and events, where he often collaborates with other top artists. He releases his work only in small numbers.

His work is in private collections throughout the UK, in Australia, New York, Las Vegas, Barcelona, Korea, Germany, Japan, Hong Kong, Ibiza and has been featured in Huck, Design Week, The Observer, The Times, Elle Déco, Plus1, Loaded and GQ magazines to name but a few.

In the last few months, he has been working on creating a new series of paintings for the big art and fashion exhibition, Urban In Ibiza and working on an exhibition for the Amy Winehouse Foundation which will happen in London in September.

Ben is stoked to work with Vans:

"Great to be working with one of my favourite and most iconic skateboarding brands which have not only evolved with the culture but helped shape it in so many ways from day one."

Inspiration for the shoe designs?

"Skulls, skulls, skulls....! The icon of the rebellious at heart and anti-establishment supporters."

We asked Ben who needs to be wearing his custom designs?:

"Anyone who loves skulls, bold designs and neon colour schemes."

Watch this space for the piece of art pair of shoes to be sold at auction.

To have your pair customised, you can order your pair of whites online in advance or purchase on the evening (stock is extremely limited!).
