Joyful Transitioning | Cornwall Today Sept 19
I spend my entire year looking forward to summer, lazy days in the sunshine, walks on the beach, BBQ’s and sitting outdoors with friends, nursing a delicious gin and tonic. This to me, is my favourite time of the year. I’ve struggled to wear socks or trousers for nearly two months now, loving the freedom of just deciding which pair of shorts to throw on each day with a simple cami. No more decisions needed, just a pair of trusty Birkenstocks, a dusting of bronzer and I’m ready for the day! On the whole the weather has been kind to us this year, I think it always is. Yes we get our fair share of storms here in Cornwall but when the sun shines it’s just glorious.
Simplicity is the way I’m going in all aspects of my life, trying to pair down the amount of decisions I need to make and trying to create a smooth path. I’ve recently acquired a pair of beautiful ceramic mugs from a stunning shop in Portugal, they were twice what I’d normally pay for a mug but are such a work of art that I felt they warranted their price tag. Each morning as I sip my coffee in one of these mugs they bring me joy, I realise this sounds rather silly but it’s true, I feel complete in my mug buying needs now. I’ve issued a death threat to my daughters if they use them and don’t wash them up by hand or leave them stagnant in their bedrooms!
I think we’re becoming programmed to acquire less, make considered purchases and surround ourselves with things that we really love and that make us happy. As I tentatively consider a new season and our stock room fills up with all manner of bright and beautiful goodies, there are decisions to make. What will take me through into a new season and beyond? Will it be versatile? Can it be worn bare legged for now and then layered up as the days get colder? I want something which is equally good for late summer days as it is for mid-winter evenings. This is a big ask but I have just the thing...
This gorgeous dress from Free People totally lives up to its name - ‘Feeling Groovy Maxi’. It ticks all the boxes, can be worn in multiple ways, will look equally fabulous with flip flops or heavy socks and boots with a chunky knit and above all, it will make me smile and twirl all the way into winter.
