Bank Holiday Staycation Guide

Even if the days are all seemingly blending into each other at the moment during lockdown and maybe you can't tell weekdays apart from the weekend, we've come up with some holiday-inspired simple ideas to celebrate the long weekend. From our favourite cocktail and marinade recipes and what we're listening to on Spotify right now, to our top picks of fabulous weekend styles and not forgetting an inspirational book to top it all off. Hello May Bank Holiday vibes!

 We're loving Aluna Coladas!

Why not make yourself a refreshing cocktail? Our favourite involves Aluna Coconut Rum which is made with all-natural toasted coconut, blended with fantastic rums from Guatemala and the Caribbean, containing a fraction of the sugar found in other coconut rums. Winning! So we've chosen their version of the classic Piña Colada - lighter and cleaner with all the joy of your favourite holiday cocktail, but none of the cream...

Simply add 50ml of Aluna Coconut, 150ml of pineapple juice, 50ml of coconut water and a squeeze of fresh lime to a cocktail shaker... shake shake shake, pour over cubed ice and stir to combine.  Garnish with mint or a lime wedge - cheers! 🍍

Speakers On... Volume Up!

We regularly receive compliments about the music we play in the shop here in Cornwall, but since lockdown, all our lovely customers haven't had the chance to check out what's spinning on Roo's Spotify this week. So here it is - an upbeat mix especially for the long weekend, just for you! Enjoy!

The Perfect Marinade

The 'Sumner Cooks' cookbook was created by one of Roo's best friends - Lucy Hone, who lives in New Zealand. Made for her kid's primary school, this is a recipe that has been tried and tested many-a-time in Roo's household. So here it is, Asian BBQ Marinade by Lucy! Let us know what you cook this weekend using this fantastic, yummy recipe!

Our Recommended Read - The Salt Path by Raynor Winn

“A beautiful, thoughtful, lyrical story of homelessness, human strength and endurance” - Guardian
“The most inspirational book of this year. What the book chiefly conveys is the human capacity for endurance and the regenerative power of nature” - The Times

Roo's Review

Roo - "A wonderful read, set along the South West coast path from Minehead to Poole, this is truly a story of resilience and survival, from the first page you are inside Ray’s head and you can feel her pain, and as the story unfolds you are with her and Moth on their remarkable journey. I haven’t finished it yet but I don’t want to put it down and I’m re-living the stretches of this beautiful coast we live on as they walk it. It’s made me want to do the walk - maybe not in quite such a brutal way!"

We hope you all have a lovely long bank holiday weekend. Let's hope the sun shines for us all! Thanks again for all your support, Roo and the team x
