KeepCup – A Reuse Revolution!

Get a KeepCup and help reduce paper cup wastage

2.5 billion “paper” coffee cups are being thrown away in the UK every year. That’s almost 5,000 a minute, or 7 million per day. The worst part is that hardly any of them are being recycled – less than 6 million cups a year, which is less than one day’s worth meaning less than 1/4 of one percent. We haven’t failed to notice that the number of coffee chains in our towns and cities has grown rapidly over the past decade with many consumers assuming that coffee cups can be recycled. In fact, it is not that simple, even though most of the big coffee companies claim their single-use cups are recyclable, the majority of them are coated with a plastic that makes them waterproof and therefore non-recyclable.

Today's throwaway culture means that millions of consumers each week are putting their coffee cups into recycling bins and they are not being recycled. In fact, a whopping 1 million disposable cups end up in landfill every minute.

One company fighting for the reuse revolution is KeepCup, who have used their barista experience to design and create the world's first barista standard, reusable, takeaway coffee cup. Made from the equivalent plastic of 20 disposable coffee cups, the KeepCup is lightweight, unbreakable and dishwasher safe. In a variety of colours and sizes, that boldly highlight a very “green” accessory, this sustainable product encourages a new way of living that you will actually want to use.

In the office here at Roo’s Beach we can’t go five minutes without a nice cup of tea, making sure we use our KeepCup’s in Blossom, a great mish-mash of purples and blues or Apricot in a bright, beautiful, summery orange.

Roo's KeepCup review:
"I literally use this cup every single day. It's a perfect size, drinks really well and doesn't leak. A must-have for coffee and tea drinkers."

There is enough plastic in 20 disposable cups and lids to make one KeepCup

For more information, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall will be hosting a programme tonight on BBC1, highlighting the staggering amount of coffee cups being disposed of every year and uncovering why so few are being recycled. Reusers - we salute you! #WasteNot
