Levis, a brand that need no introduction. Founded by Levi Strauss, the first pair of jeans were developed in 1873. Combining tough denim and copper rivets, they were developed as a hardy trouser for the working American people, they became a wardrobe staple with everybody from cowboys to the president donning them. The rest is history. 

As the Levi’s patents expired and other manufacturers were able to produce their own versions of jeans, Levi’s sought a way to authenticate their denim. They affixed a red tab to the back pocket of their 501, where it has remained ever since and become a trademark of the quality they produce.
