Back in 1970’s Philadelphia, Dick Hayne opened a store for the young people who lived there and wanted freedom in the clothes they wore. He called that store Free People. Eventually, as the shop grew and grew, it was renamed from Free People to Urban Outfitters, which is now one of the world’s leading fashion retailers. In 2001 Dick and his wife Meg went back to their roots and breathed a new life into Free People. Leaving its junior image behind, the bohemian clothing and lifestyle brand is now catered to their customer’s intelligence, creativity and individuality.
"And that's just who we wanted to reach: a 26-year-old girl, smart, creative, confident and comfortable in all aspects of her being, free and adventurous, sweet to tough to tomboy to romantic. A girl who likes to keep busy and push life to its limits, with traveling and hanging out and everything in between. Who loves Donovan as much as she loves The Dears, and can't resist petting any dog that passes her by on the street." - Free People
