Surf Wood for Good

Surf Wood For Good | Roo’s Beach

We’re so excited to be a part of the Surf Wood for Good campaign, initiated by our good pals Dick Pearce and Friends! We’re on for a busy, busy summer and we want to do all we can to make it a kind one to our beaches.

The project is offering free wooden bellyboard rentals as a positive alternative to cheap, environmentally-toxic polystyrene bodyboards that are so often discarded on beaches in the South West. Here in Newquay, across our beaches, it's estimated that 20 boards are thrown away daily during the holiday season.

Surf Wood For Good | Roo’s BeachWorking with Surfers Against Sewage here in Porth and in 9 other beach side locations across the UK, they hope this rental project will send out a positive message to beachgoers about the benefits of sustainability. We’re totally sold on the idea and hope that our visitors to Porth Beach will be onboard too!

The boards are made locally, just around the corner from us in Newquay (another reason we love them!). Joe manage to take a few snaps of the process on his last visit to the workshop!

If you fancy taking one for a spin, get on down and dip your toes in the water. Each location has 5 boards to start with, so we have limited stock - it’s first come, first surfed!

If you fancy buying your own, check out our super cool boards we made in collaboration with Dick Pearce, live on our website and in store now.
