Having always shared a passion for menswear and generally ’nice stuff’ from surfboards to interiors, I couldn’t think of anyone better to showcase a few new season pieces than my very own Dad. We decided to select an edit of pieces from the season that can be easily dressed up and down depending on one’s style.
With a mixture of ‘out there’ pieces and day-to-day basics, here are the looks we’ve curated…
With Summer fast approaching (apparently) we used this excuse to showcase some of the two pieces we have available here at Roo’s Beach from English brand, Universal Works. Masters of soft tailoring, Universal Works have brought out two different styles of what I like to call, casual suiting for this season. The Three Button Jacket, as seen on Dad, is one of those pieces every guy should have in his wardrobe for the ease of being able to dress it up and down so stylishly, it can be worn with the matching military chino trouser or a white tee and a pair of jeans for a more casual look. The Field Jacket worn by myself has more a utilitarian style and slightly boxy fit. This jacket can be worn with the matching trouser as seen here, or with almost any colour chino, short or denim colour for a day to day look. Easy Peasy.
Focussing on colours often overlooked by guys, these looks show how earthy tones can look great year round. Dad is wearing jacket, shirt and jeans all by YMC, which look great together, the fit and fabric’s from YMC never disappoint. Individually these three pieces can also be worn with other day to day staples from the wardrobe such as denim and plain tees. I’m wearing the YMC Erkin Jacket (maybe my favourite piece of the season), the shape and fabric is amazing, with the option of rolling the collar up and down giving you more ways to style it. The Ecru colour of the always popular Gramicci G-Pant is a brilliant option for the warmer months. This trouser colour is perfect for brightening up outfits and breaking up colours.
A nice shirt and a pair jeans is all it takes sometimes. With such an array of amazing short sleeved shirts here at the shop, we wanted to show just a couple, paired with some pairs of seasonal washes from Levi’s Made and Crafted. Dad is wearing the Maui Shirt from Universal Works, mustard can be a surprisingly easy colour to pair with everyday clothing and more subtle tones. Bringing brightness and colour to the most mundane of outfits, it can be a great one to wear through the summer months. The Universal Works Dockside Jacket is a brilliant piece for light layering and throwing over the top of a shirt, available in a navy and green colour way, I like to wear pieces like this slightly oversized.
To say we’re “short heavy” this season might be a bit of an understatement, with wide ranges from brands such as Gramicci, Rhythm and Stan Ray. The new Gadget short from Gramicci has already been proven to be a store favourite. With the use of climbing details representing the brands heritage, the slightly shorter, slimmer cut compared to the traditional G Short has resulted in an excellent fitting short for the warmer months. Dad ’s look pairs the Gramicci Gadget Short with the Portuguese Flannel Still Nature Shirt. Portuguese Flannel frequently use a wide range of fabrics (and print, obviously) in their collections and this Still Nature Shirt is no different. Constructed from 100% Lyocell, this use of fabric making for floaty, almost silk like texture. I’m wearing the incredibly comfortable Fat Shorts from Stan Ray. The fabric, fit and heavy duty nature of the fabric has resulted in them already making their way to my wardrobe…uh oh.
